World class manufacturing

Ideal is one of the most respected names in the heating industry and the only company in its field to have achieved 'World Class Manufacturer' accreditation in the prestigious IBM and London Business School UK manufacturing survey. For over 90 years we have been designing, refining and manufacturing appliances that are not only trusted by the trade, but also relied upon by homeowners the length and breadth of the country. Our Hull based factory is part of only 2% of all manufacturing sites in the UK that have been independently judged as meeting the criteria for World Class Manufacturing status, while our superior manufacturing facilities mean that we can achieve 'right first time' quality. In accordance with the company's World Class status, we have adopted a programme of continuous improvement which ensures that we constantly measure and monitor our performance to drive improvement through innovation.

Engineered for peace of mind

To ensure their reliability, each of our boilers is subjected to an extraordinarily stringent regime of product assessment. This includes rigorous application testing, as well as extensive laboratory and field trials.

From a name you can depend on

The Ideal brand is one of the most respected in the heating business. It is trusted by the trade and relied upon by homeowners to provide a long lasting, first-class service in all kinds of different homes and for all manner of different applications. Ideal's reputation for reliability and innovation is backed by the commitment and dedication of everyone connected with the company to deliver cost-effective, highquality products and solutions, all backed by an unbeatable customer and after-sales service.

The excel HE

The excel HE boiler provides a modern, stylish exterior that blends into any home environment. The excel HE has been designed using well proven technology, with minimum additional components for HE operation. This reliable approach to engineering offers years of trouble free service. Its ease of installation, wide range of fluing options and use of familiar technology all ensure that the excel HE is amongst the most installer-friendly boilers available. The choice of three models includes a high output 32kW, providing solutions for more households.

• Height - 800mm
• Width - 450mm
• Depth - 320mm

Application and usage

The excel HE has been developed to be easy to install in both new or replacement installations. The wide range of flue systems, concentric or choice of 80mm and 60mm twin-pipe systems gives real flexibility of siting. Combined with a pre-piping frame, or a stand-off kit, it's easy to fit.
A choice of 24 hour mechanical or 7 day electronic timer kits that simply fit into the control panel provides ease of use. Naturally, the Ideal condensate pump kit can be used for those more difficult sites.

The excel in operation

The excel's heating and hot water provision is automatically controlled, the boiler is fan-flued and no ventilation is required. To improve efficiency, the boiler modulates its heat output to meet the heating load being applied. Maximum DHW outputs range from 23.4kW to 32kW (80,000-109,000Btu/h) delivering maximum flows from 9.6 to 13.1 l/min at 35°C temperature rise, according to model. A stable DHW temperature is maintained regardless of flow rate. For ease of servicing and maintenance diagnostic lights are provided behind the drop down door.

What is SEDBUK?

SEDBUK stands for Seasonal Efficiency of Domestic Boilers in the UK and is a Government sponsored database for domestic gas and oil boilers both old and new. It enables consumers and engineers to choose an appliance based upon its efficiency and is the nearest thing the heating market has to an energy labelling system.

Each of Ideal's HE boilers contains only those parts that are necessary to deliver dependability and performance, or that make the product easier to fit, operate or install. As a result, they all offer exceptional levels of reliability and are easily maintained and serviced.

Common components

Many Ideal HE appliances share a wide number of common parts - making them easier to install, service, and maintain. These items include components such as the gas valve, burner, venturi, fan, fluing system and controls.

Easy siting

All Ideal HE appliances are available with a wide range of flue options. These make siting the boiler in the property easier as long flues can be used. It also makes positioning the flue terminal easier.

Simple to fit and service

Because they have so much in common, fewer spares are required to maintain the range of boilers.
Most products are 'self-adjusting'(other than the Ideal istor HE). This allows the installer to fit the products without the need to make any alterations. The boilers, being fully modulating, (classic HE excepted) adjust themselves to the required output to meet the heating load.

Unprecedented reliability

We have introduced new test procedures which are comprised of a demanding series of application tests to ensure that the boiler is fault-free.
We have never been tougher on ourselves or our products, and you will find that it shows in the new standards of reliability which these products have attained.

The classic HE

The classic HE boiler is a high-efficiency development of the well known classic SE range. It fully complies with the latest requirements of Building Regulations Part L, yet still maintains the simplicity and ruggedness that its predecessor is renowned for. By using the minimum number of additional components with the famed cast iron heat exchanger and overall layout, ease of installation and servicing has been retained but now in high-efficiency form.

A range of outputs, including LPG models, together with a range of fluing options, makes the classic HE the choice for more installations. Particularly now all models fit behind a cupboard door.

Application and usage

The classic HE has been developed to be the boiler of choice for new housing or older systems where replacement or upgrades are required. Its attractive, compact design, simple controls and quiet operation means it can be sited anywhere in the house. A downward piping kit allows system pipes to be neatly concealed behind the boiler if required. Simple 3 core wiring means it is an easy replacement in older systems. Even the system pipe centres and rear flue outlet are in the same positions as the classic SE.

Flue options include a rear outlet neatly led from within the casing, whilst side outlet or vertical flues are easily installed.
Any issues of condensate drain routing can be overcome by using the optional Ideal condensate pump kit.

The classic HE in operation

All models are fan-flued, high-efficiency products with fixed outputs for simple operation. The normal cast iron heat exchanger is retained and a neat cast aluminium recuperator is fitted behind it. Robust simplicity is continued with the atmospheric burner using the intermittent pilot burner assembly. The user benefits from an adjustable thermostat control.

Conventional boilers are often referred to as "heat-only". The High Efficiency models tend to be called "High Efficiency Heat-Only".

In a conventional boiler gas jets play onto a cast iron heat exchanger through which water passes to be heated. If used to supply taps, hot water cannot be provided on demand but must be stored, usually in a copper cylinder. This type of boiler has relatively simple controls and energy consumption can be high but the cost of this is moderated by the low maintenance costs. They are versatile in that they can be used in almost any type of property and can be pumped or gravity fed.
Ideal Boilers have three conventional high-efficiency boilers. These are the icos, mexico HE and classic HE.

Combination boilers or "Combis" are a particularly attractive form of heating because they dispense with the need for the hot water cylinder in the airing cupboard, and also the large cold water cistern ("tank") plus small header cistern in the loft which are otherwise needed in conventional vented heating systems. All the major components are housed in one unit which makes them very convenient to the installer. They are especially suitable for smaller households with inconsiderable heating and hot water demands. In the past combination boilers have been less suited to larger households, however Ideal's latest models can cater for large households hot water needs. For example the Ideal isar boiler range has a 35kW which output model will cater quite easily for a homeowners heating and hot water needs in a 3 or 4 bedroom house. For anything larger Ideal recommend their istor boiler (see below).

Unlike heat-only or system boilers, the casing normally houses the pump and DHW heat exchanger and motorized valve - the system is all in 1 box. Because it is a sealed system, Central Heating (CH) water expansion has to be accommodated in a pressure vessel which is also within the casing. Instead of an open safety-vent pipe looping over the expansion cistern in the loft there will be a pressure-relief valve. A gauge is usually provided to indicate that the CH system is under pressure. It will need occasional re-pressurising from the mains water supply so a facility for a filling loop (flexible braided pipe) is provided. To comply with the water regulations the loop must be physically removed upon completion.

Ideal Boilers have three High-Efficiency combination boiler ranges - the isar HE excel HE and mini HE
