Kitchen Sinks

The kind of kitchen sink you choose when your kitchen is being newly fitted or renovated is very important. It should not only blend with the other kitchen fittings and overall design, but also perform the functions you need it for. To pick the best design and style suitable for your kitchen and requirement, it’s best to understand the types of kitchen sinks available and the style that will best suit your kitchen.

The choice and type of kitchen sink units vary based on their styles, design, location etc. The worktop style you prefer is also an important factor, while deciding on a kitchen sink. If space is an issue, check out single bowl sinks that are available in a wide variety. On the other hand, if you have adequate space, you can go for bigger sinks, which can accommodate bigger utensils and trays.

- The most common and widely available is an inset sink. A ceramic kitchen sink, also an inset sink, can be found in most homes. These are fitted with its top resting on a slab that is put on the worktop. Apart from ceramic, you can also opt for steel and granite varieties.

- The Belfast style sinks are the traditional sinks, which are large in size. These are not fitted in to the kitchen unit, but attached to the wall with the help of mounted brackets. They have a sluice style overflow system and are usually available in white colour. Also known as butler sinks; these are robust and blend perfectly with both a modern look, as well as a traditionally designed kitchen.

- A style fast gaining popularity is the under mounted sink, which are placed under the worktops. These work and look great with modern styled kitchen, and need a waterproof worktop. Usually, granite worktops are combined with an under mounted sink.

- Another traditionally designed sink is the sit-on sink. These are called so as they are placed directly on the kitchen unit and not fitted into the worktop. These are usually available in granite and steel material.

Available in a variety of materials such as granite, steel, ceramic, copper, stone, and wood - you can choose a sink that compliments the look of your kitchen, while fitting in your budget and requirement. Whether you opt for a lavish and expensive, or a relatively smaller and cheap kitchen sink, make sure it is just right for your kitchen.
