Choosing a radiator over 10,000 to 11,000 BTUs
Looking for substantial heat output for a larger living area or an open-plan room? Radiators in this range may be suitable where the calculated heat loss calls for it. Room size alone is not enough: glazing, insulation, ceiling height and exposed walls can change the requirement considerably. For an open-plan space, calculate the heat loss for the whole area before choosing one or more radiators.
Match the heat rating to your system
Compare your room’s heat requirement with each product’s BTU or watt output at the stated ΔT rating. ΔT is the difference between the radiator’s average water temperature and room temperature. A figure at ΔT60 cannot be compared directly with one at ΔT50; output falls when the water runs cooler. If you use a heat pump or a lower-temperature system, check the manufacturer’s output at your intended operating conditions and seek a heating professional’s advice where needed.
Check the installation details
Compare panel and convector configuration, radiator height and width, pipe centres and wall-to-pipe centres. Confirm available wall space, pipe positions, valve requirements and installation clearances before ordering. A larger radiator may offer the required output without needing an exact like-for-like replacement.
