Heat Your Home with Efficiency and Ease with Boilers from Us.

  • How Do Boilers Work?

A central heating system consists of a boiler, pipework, and radiators. The boiler heats water, which a pump circulates through the pipes to the radiators, heating the room via convection. There are two main types of boilers: conventional, which stores hot water in a cylinder, and combination (combi), which heats water on demand without a cylinder.

Central heating controls include room thermostats regulating the overall temperature and thermostatic radiator valves on individual radiators. Programmers allow you to set heating schedules, while boiler thermostats control water temperature. Maintaining your system ensures efficiency and comfort in your home.

  • What Different Types of Boilers Are Available?

Conventional: Often called regular, these boilers have a water tank that directly heats your home and is connected to a separate cylinder for your hot water.

A heat exchanger ensures the water is warmed when the fuel is ignited, but a pump transports the water to a storage tank, allowing the hot water to flow through to your taps and radiators.

A regular boiler is an excellent choice if you live in a large home with two or more bathrooms or an area with low water pressure.

Combination: These boilers are often called combi and are the most compact of the standard three boiler types.

Combi boilers generate heat and hot water from a single (usually) wall-hung unit. An integral heat exchanger instantaneously heats the cold water from the main supply as it flows into your home by connecting to the main cold water supply.

Combi-boilers are a great choice if you live in a small home with only one bathroom.

System: System boilers, like conventional ones, require a hot water cylinder, but unlike traditional pumps, the other parts are built into the system. You may hear these boilers being called closed-vented or system-sealed, a modern upgrade to their conventional counterparts.

Choose this boiler if you have a modern central heating system and reliable mains pressure.

Signs my boiler needs replacing

If your boiler shows signs of leaks, repeated low water pressure, or unusual noises, it may need replacement rather than repair. Leaks can stem from broken components or corroded pipes, potentially causing severe damage if left unaddressed. Repeated low pressure could indicate leaks, faulty expansion vessels, or a defective pressure relief valve.

Persistent banging or gurgling noises may signal more severe issues, such as component failure or system blockages. In these cases, consulting a Gas Safe registered engineer is crucial to diagnose the problem and determine whether repair or replacement is necessary for safety and efficiency.

Remember that we also stock oil, electric, and many other boiler types. Please contact us if you require assistance choosing the right one for your home.
