At Tradeplumbing.co.uk, we supply a wide range of Bathroom Goods to both trade and domestic customers across the UK and this got us thinking…with thousands of bathroom suites, toilets, baths, and showers all being shipped out every month – we spend so much time thinking about customer service and product quality, we forget to look at some of the more light-hearted aspects of our industry, and in particular – what bathroom habits our customers have, and which of those habits need to stop!

Speaking to customers, suppliers and the team in the office, we have brought together seven bathroom sins, which ones are you guilty of?

Switching on…when you should be switching off.

Call us romantics, we like to think of the bathroom as a little slice of heaven. Sent from the gods, it’s a place for contemplation and pampering. It’s not a room which is meant for work, social media, emails, WhatsApp’s, snapshots and text messages. So whether you are on the toilet (when no one wants to hear from you) or enjoying a relaxing bath, focus on the job at hand and leave the technology well alone.

Flushing the Toilet with the Lid Up

Not only is flushing the toilet with the lid up a bad habit, it can also be dangerous. Research shows that leaving the lid open when flushing, is an incredibly quick and easy way to make your bathroom unhygienic. A single flush can spread particles as far as six feet away from the toilet, spreading nasty bacteria into almost all corners of the bathroom. Keeping the toilet lid down, keeps the water contained – reducing the risk of infection.

Cleaning your bathroom… but not the doorknob.

Whilst you may be able to vouch for washing your hands every time you go to the bathroom… can your guests? The first thing any visitors will touch after visiting the toilet is the door handle and lock – so make sure you give them a thorough clean, regularly!

Hanging Wet Towels

This is one of our pet hates at the Trade Plumbing office, how do you expect towels to properly dry when they have been hung off a hook, and aren’t receiving any heat? Moisture, excess soap, can all sit in the creases in your towel – providing a breeding ground for bacteria and mildew. Really, the only way to properly dry your towels is with a dedicated Towel Rail.

Not Cleaning the Bath

You may think that all the lotions, potions and even bath bombs you use in the bath keep your bath in pristine condition, well you would be wrong! If you share your home with others, then it’s likely that each time you take a dip, you are sitting in their bath residue – which can be full of bacteria. To achieve the right level of cleanliness, use bleach.

Using the Bathroom as a Dumping Ground

Most have seen it, or have been guilty of it – leaving cosmetics and makeup on the bathroom cabinet, or around the sink. Leaving them, and other items exposed means that germs and bacteria in the bathroom land on them, and in the case of a makeup brush – you certainly don’t want bathroom germs all over your face.

Letting your Shower Curtain go Mouldy

If you go and look at your shower curtain, and can see little black dots – they are mould spores. Shower Curtains very easily go mouldy, as they love warm and wet environments such as the bathroom. So next time you use it, don’t let it get all scrunched up and simply leave it. Instead, draw the curtain, and let it dry naturally. Alternatively, just replace it with an easier to clean shower screen.

So go on, let us know in the comments if you are guilty of any of the above, or if you have any bad bathroom habits of your own…
